On Tuesday we toured some famous 19th centure castles in Germany. The spendthrift genius King Ludwig II, born in 1845, was raised in Hohenschwangau Castle (last below). To outdo his father Maximilian, he then had built Neuschwanstein ("new swan stone," first below) -- the ultimate fairyland castle further up the hill. It was the model for Disneyland's Fantasyland castle.
