Leopoldskron Schoss (castle)

Our CILS training took place at this spacious castle in Salzburg ~ just outside the Old Town and south of that huge ancient fortress. The 1740 AD castle was acquired in 1918 and renovated by Max Reinhardt of Chicago -- co-founder of the Salzburg Festival, made famous in The Sound of Music. Many scenes from that movie were filmed here -- but when we walked by with the Huffs on our 1982 trip, we saw that the gazebo had been torn down. The Salzburg Global Seminar acquired it in 1959 and still owns it, to conduct many programs like ours.
