Ludwig II loved swans and luxury. Linderhoff was the only castle that he completed and lived in before he died at age 40. It was elegant, with many unique outbuildings. He never married and lived there alone for 8 years. Then in 1886, he mysteriously drowned in a Munich lake. Was it an accident, suicide -- or murder? We may never know, although the legends live on.
